  • the problem with going global on your parts is having sufficient buffer stocks to cover disruptions be it container ships stuck in canals, or earthquakes, or tsunami etc. The cost down programmes are the key component in management bonuses. The issue is continuity of supply and one major event can screw up your build schedule.

I never heard that, we used to call them snoot nose. But you're right, it does look like a Dustbuster. I saw a white Lumina (smooth side) with smoked black windows in a stretch limo and it was really sharp. A minivan stretch Limo? Yeah. It looked just like a Starfleet shuttle craft and was just beautiful.

  • The American, and I use the term loosely, car "assemblers " don't really sell anything tangible. Most parts are "out sourced " to the low bidder and the lack of quality reflects this fact.

We can only guess at the politics going on. GM, they can produce top rated cars, but no, it's all about politics and money. If GM produced the cars of quality that they did they'd be # 1; people would say, what's a Honda Civic or a Toyota Corrola.

  • You clearly have no idea of the complexity involved in designing and manufacturing semiconductor microelectronics (ICs), as if a backyard mechanic could make these. Once again, you simplify everything as if everything has a simple solution. No car company designs or makes their own ICs including Toyota who sources SOME of them from Denso.

  • Actually the Dodge brothers supplied the drivetrains for Ford up untill they decided to build there own cars because Henry Ford was so stubborn to change with the times. I also believe the Dodge brothers were also recievinh a commisiin for every Ford car sold, which pissed Henry Ford iff like you wouldn't believe. The Dodge brothers had a summer cottage up near where I live on Manitoulin island in Ontario. I think one of their sons died up there from a boating accident.

  • After 1968 they stopped looking at how to make cars better, and started looking at how to shave down Manufacturing in such a way as to cut costs. If they were still making real automobiles, they would not have this difficulty. I just think I'll get a riding mower engine and build my own special construction car, and register it with the state. I can get enough mph to get where I need to go in 80% of the occasions with something like that.

  • You are entirely missing the pt. Scotty. Gasoline cars are going the way of the dinosaur due to "climate change." The real reason is they want you to have no freedom of travel. They will push toward electric cars that the grid can not handle = you won't have a car in the near future = they will make sure of that. This is a take down of GM not due to lack of semiconductors. It's part of Agenda UN 21/2030 but people don't see it.

Big Mike JohnsonBig Mike Johnson15 күн мурун
    • Also take note of the "gasoline shortage" due to lack of skilled/licensed delivery drivers. They are going to take gas to $5, than $7 than $9 until the prices match the price in Europe. That will limit your freedom of travel too and if you have to commute a long distance to work it will murder your budget. They are dismantling our lives every way they can, by design, to subjugate the masses. There will be two classes in society in 10 years = those that have/own everything = the 1% and the rest = the serfs who will live off their Universal Basic Income, who will own nothing but will be so happy.
