  • What about coating a slightly rusty '08 if I get it sand blasted first?

    Drr GrrDrr Grr25 күн мурун
    • If you can get all of the rust off, I’d use a good primer sealer IMMEDIATELY (maybe the guys who sandblast it can do it). And then a few good coats of paint. Then a soft rubberized undercoating like 3M brand or a hot sprayed on tar-like coating. Do this ONCE, do it thick. (Once as in just that first season, I’d do a few coats.) check and make absolutely sure everything is coated. Right out to the bottom edge of the body panels. Then every year after this, before winter, I’d spray with a wax undercoating and or oil (like a silicone spray lube or some people do a diesel/bar and chain oil mix). Just to oil things up (it’s helped me with suspension creaks) and to moisten up and condition the rubberized or tar undercoating.

Saying they weren’t worth putting on a Ranger. I don’t understand that reasoning. So glad I had these tires put on... A smoother ride over thousands of miles might mean less wear and tear on the vehicle, too. Particularly suspension components and maybe even prevent dash creeks.

  • I have a follow-up RUST QUESTION. I recently got a 2003 Toyota Sequoia from Florida, zero rust, and drove it back to where I live in NE Ohio. I read that the early 1st gen sequoias (and Tundras) had problems with the frames rusting out, they were improperly coated or treated from the factory. I've read that this problem was solved in 03 or 04, but it's not entirely clear, and perhaps there was a year or two (or maybe the entire time) where the problem was hit or miss, possibly only affecting some vehicles? Not sure. Bottom line is I want to keep this truck rust free, what is the BEST way to accomplish that? Zeibart, oil spray, something else?

    Artcore103Artcore10325 күн мурун
    • @Artcore103 you might look for a roofing tar undercoating dealer or WoolWax dealer.

James St. ClairJames St. Clair25 күн мурун
    • @James St. Clair thank you for the response. There's zero rust currently. I'll look into the 3m product, but I'm not sure if I'm equipped to properly do the job myself because if you miss a spot it undermines the entire job. So I'm more asking what professional solutions/services are best.

      Artcore103Artcore10325 күн мурун
    • If it were me, I’d first use a soft rubberized undercoating, like 3M. If it has no rust. If it has very little rust, I’d clean it off down to bare metal and do the 3M. If it’s covered in rust, I might just use Woolwax or a silicone spray lube.

    • @James St. Clair seriously man all I use his mobile 5000 semi synthetic. Either with a wicks or the Ford Motorcraft filter that’s it. The truck is still my every day driver. I live in Wisconsin so it gets cold or it’s hot. I really like the looks of the new Ford ranger but does it come with a standard V6, no eco-boost????

    • @Brad Faymoville how often do you change the oil? Miles and months? What type and or of oil and filter? I tried Amsoil signature series this last time. I do mostly highway mileage, now, so I’m trying to push it to 10,000 miles/8 months. I’ll be sending it for testing at Blackstone Labs. I also used an Amsoil 25,000 mile filter.

    • @James St. Clair nope never! I was told because it was never late for an oil change I’ve always did my own service.

    • @Brad Faymoville that’s incredible, based on what I’ve heard. 02’s had weak timing chain cassettes. Ever change the timing chain tensioners?

  • I bought a 1993 Explorer used in 2003 with 56k on it. Had it for 7 years. Body was separating from frame. Not surprising as I submerged it once in a while. I dropped it off at the salvage yard with 269K on all original engine an trans.
