I guess I’m not that rich I drive a new Volkswagen GTI 7 days a week. So it’s my 7 day a week driver. I guess America is a wealthy country.

  • I am driving my second Sonata. First was a 2007 model with the 2.4 liter engine. Drove it until 2014/135k miles when I sold it because I was moving out of the country for a job. When I returned in 2016, I bought a 2016 model with the same engine. This one now has 89k miles and drives like the day I bought it. Never had any issues with them. When I gift this one to my daughter next year when she starts driving, I'll get another Sonata for sure.

Hyundai replaced the Santa Fe's and Sonata engines but not in the Tucson's....same engines! Cost me $5000 to get it back to Kansas and have the engine rebuilt. Hyundai refused to repair the engine. Won't buy Hyundai again! Went with a Toyota Rav4 instead. Love it!

  • When compared to a Camry I thought that generation sonata was very disappointing. Hard plastic doors And a hollow sounding console. As Someone who works in auto finance I can tell you there is a good reason why the Hyundai sonata has a mediocre Resale value. By the time the car reaches 100 K it has devalued so much from its original price that it's almost not worth making any medium to major repairs from that point on. That's including Even small Fender Benders. I recently had a client who had a 2017 sonata limited That head accidentally sideswiped A-line of shopping carts in the Publix parking lot. The car head no mechanical damage. This was a car that originally sold for 26K But Less than 4 yours and 81K miles progressive decided to total the car out because Through repairs were just South of $7000. Keep in mind this was all cosmetic damage Nothing mechanical with the exception of the Electric folding side rearview mirror. The customer was referred to me because They realized that The true book value of the car was only $8400 but they still owed over $13000. I hate to keep bringing up the Camry but I pulled up a listing of identically equipped Toyota Camry as that were very similarly priced when new. Same miles Same equipment camrys were going for North of $15000. The reason for that is that a Camry is far more likely to surpass 200 K miles ( I drive a Camry by the way with 439 K miles). But the Hyundai sonata usually tops out at 150 K miles But once any Hyundai hits around the 60K mark it immediately goes to one of those "buy here pay here" We finance anyone with a pulse type used car lots of.

  • My past few jobs I had would always buy Hyundai cars. Mainly elantras or accents. Most of them beaten on going in and out and spending most of the time in city traffic. Most of the techs treated these like complete crap skipping maintenance for thousands of miles over due millage. Most of these have gotten well over 200k some of them 300k and even one close to 700k. I ended up getting one for my self recently as my daily driver. I was always a Toyota guy but now after seeing 15+ years of these Hyundai’s being beat on over and over again and still keep going I’m sold.

Hot summer day If It was only sitting a few hours I just give it like 30 seconds at least. In the morning maybe just over a minute. And colder weather closer to freezing I give it up to like 5 minutes, yeah it's a newer car, less than 10 years old. Maybe it's just an old habit of mine but I still feel better off doing it.

  • I had bought a brand new 2017 Hyundai Sonata Sport here in Colorado since it was few thousand dollars cheaper than Toyota Camry which was my other option. My oh my!! This ended up becoming one of my worst decision I’ve made in terms of cars in a long time. My sonata started having engine issue randomly one day in 2019 and It spent more time at the dealer rather than with me that year with few of those visits taking over 2 months because they couldn’t figure out what the problem is. They had to wait for the response from Hyundai corporate office for the solution. While I was driving in the highway one day, I couldn’t go faster than 60 mph no matter how hard I pressed on the gas. I pulled over and noticed rpm wouldn’t go past 2000. I took it to my local Hyundai dealer since mine was still under 100k powertrain warranty (thank god) as it had only little over 50k mileage. After one year and visiting Hyundai dealer for the whole year of 2019 and dealing with the crap that Hyundai corporation manager was throwing at me, they finally fixed it. Even though I didn’t have to pay a dime because of the warranty, this crap Hyundai company Korean junk had caused me so much mental stress and waste of time. I urge everyone to refrain from buying any Hyundai cars and stay the fk away from it. Anything but the Hyundai!

They aren't super unreliable, and for the right price they can be good cars. If you are in the market to spend $5000 on a car and you simply care about having a new car, then Hyundai cars are good to fit that purpose better than the domestic brands.
